Celebrate Mother's Day at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Brooklyn, NY—May 8, 2008—Did you know that scent is the most evocative memory enhancer? Celebrate Mother's Day at Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) and re-discover the heady fragrance of blooming lilacs at BBG's much-loved Louisa Clark Spencer Lilac Collection. One of the country's premier lilac collections, BBG boasts 150 specimens of the much-loved shrub, including 20 of the 27 known species and subspecies and over 120 different cultivars. The elegant plants found in the Lilac Collection feature single and double flowers, and showcase varied shades of all eight of the known lilac colors: white, violet, blue, lilac, pink, magenta, purple, and primrose—a yellowish white. In addition, visitors can see two unusual bicolor cultivars, Syringa vulgaris 'Sensation' and ‘Albert F. Holden.'
Visitors often comment that they can "smell" the Collection before they ever see it, as the intoxicating scent fills the air and delights admirers of all ages. Stirred by BBG's Lilac Collection, Mother's Day visitors can re-kindle fond memories from long ago—and create new memories while enjoying the rich fragrance of these unforgettable plants.
